Moments of Fun in 2013
We spend too much time at work not to have a bit of fun from time to time. I’m a strong believer that happy performers make for top performers, so here are some of the fun things we’ve enjoyed in the BrightTALK London office during 2013.
We kicked off the year with a new office space for kicking back and relaxing, to be unofficially, then officially, known as The Fun Zone. Featuring beanbags, sofas, a projector screen, Lego and much more, this area provides the space needed for our hard-working team to chill out.
We hosted the Great BrightTALK Bake-off to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. There were some fantastic entries, ensuring the most indulgent lunch of cakes, biscuits and sweets.
For the card players in the office, regular poker nights were launched.
Following the success of 2012’s Easter egg hunt, 2013’s event was bigger and better than ever with even bigger eggs hidden around the London office.
Our hard-working colleagues were over the moon with the newest member of BrightTALK, the espresso machine, and quickly became the most loved part of the Fun Zone.
To continue the food theme, sales and marketing joined each other for a dinner at a fantastic Afghan restaurant in Kilburn, this impromptu idea sparked a trend of exploring new worldly foods.
Our Live Team Technician, Harry Green, also had a great month when he took home the winnings of the office Grand National sweepstake with Auroras Encore.
May and June
Relatively quiet months, sales and marketing continued their tour of London restaurants, this time enjoying a Persian dinner at Manoush and copious amounts of meat at Rodizio Preto.
One of the most-anticipated events of the year is the annual BrightTALK Summer Party. This year the London office made the most of the lovely weather and spent an afternoon in Regent’s Park, including an extravagant picnic from Bodeans to keep everyone’s strength-up for a few games of rounders, football, croquet and more.
After the success of the first Great BrightTALK Bake-off, we organised a bake sale to raise money for The BrightTALK Bees, running the 2013 Royal Parks Half Marathon. With only 8 weeks to go until the race day, the team took some much needed time away from training and focused on cooking some treats to raise money for The Alzheimer’s Society.
In order to take the running team over their £2,000 fund-raising target, the half-marathon runners had a fund-raising extravaganza including a raffle and the ultimate pub quiz from Video Producer/Runner/Quiz Master, Jay Knowles.
BrightTALK’s runners in The Royal Parks Half Marathon all completed in fantastic times! The team achieved 157% of their fundraising target for The Alzheimer’s Society.
To end October the London office celebrated Halloween. Our efforts did not surpass that of our American colleagues but there were attempts at costumes, spooky office decorations and a well-attended pumpkin decorating competition to bring out our creative side.
November officially became Movember with the BrightTALK Sellecks growing more facial hair than is ever needed in a workplace. It was also November that saw us all start to drink from BrightTALK branded coffee mugs, elevating the corporate pride. With the cold weather setting in, an office movie night saw a handful of employees stay in (some even in onesies) to watch Christmas films.
Not forgetting to think of others, we raised money for Save The Children by taking part in Christmas Jumper Day on 13th December.
Having had such a fun year, we’re all looking forward to what 2014 will bring!
