Salesforce.com Acquires Dimdim – Implications for the Online Events Industry
Exactly how salesforce.com integrates Dimdim into its current offering remains to be seen, but Dimdim’s messaging and screen-sharing technology would support the development of salesforce.com’s Chatter. Dimdim’s current product offering also includes hosting live online meetings, demos and webinars, the acquisition of which would position salesforce.com to compete with Cisco WebEx.
“It looks certain that salesforce.com intends to move into the collaboration space competing with Cisco WebEx,” stated Paul Heald, CEO of BrightTALK.
The acquisition has also left those using Dimdim’s freemium online meetings and webinar tool without a service provider from mid-March.
Online events through telephone-based collaboration platforms like Cisco WebEx are expensive due to the cost of audience attendance through the conference numbers provided.
Webcast-based events look increasingly like the right solution for companies that see online events as an important part of their content strategy for demand generation.
“It’s unfortunate that Dimdim customers are left finding a new solution for their online event needs,” continued Heald, “but it is time that we moved past telephone-based collaboration platforms for online events.”
BrightTALK provides a solution for marketers that want to establish a thought-leadership position in their industry through live interactive online events. The use of rich interactive content is increasingly important as buyers take much greater control of researching a company’s products and solutions.
BrightTALK’s easy-to-use and cost-effective online events platform provides an alternative for Dimdim customers focused on presenting to large audiences.
Heald expressed, “We would be delighted to welcome any Dimdim customers looking for a proven online event solution.”
