Episode 1: The Cost of Virtue vs Vice: Investing with Purpose
Filming: January 13, 2021 at 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm GMT / 8:00 am – 9:30 am PT
In 2020, COVID-19 drove more people to engage in vices: smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, online gambling was done in higher quantities at home as usual establishments were closed. This created returns for companies that sell vices and for the funds that invest in them. Vulture funds – those that make money from the predicted distress of other assets – have also become more active.
Despite this increase in vice, society is becoming more responsible. In 2020, demand for responsible investments also increased, with AUM in funds offering ESG investments topping $1 Trillion for the first time ever. This begs the question: can COVID-19 drive more people to think socially and invest responsibly?
Join this webinar as BNY Mellon explores the long-term cost of investing in vice, and shares the long-term benefit of investing responsibly.
